Weather in TacticMap - weather control for safe UAV flights

14

TacticMap has a new functionality “Weather”, designed specifically for UAV operators who want to quickly assess weather conditions directly on the map and make informed decisions about flights.

The weather functionality consists of two key screens:

  • Main weather screen – display of current meteorological data
  • Settings screen – personalization of security limits and units of measurement

How to view the weather

To get weather data:

  1. Select the desired point on the map
  2. Press the “Weather” button
  3. The main weather screen will open with data for this location

Main weather screen

The main screen provides a complete picture of the weather conditions at the selected point:

  • Name of the settlement and coordinates for which meteorological data were obtained
  • Date and time of the last weather update
  • Flight status widget – recommendation for the possibility of performing the flight
  • Widgets of meteorological parameters (wind, gusts, temperature, visibility, etc.)
  • Sunrise and sunset time
  • List of hourly forecasts

Color indication is not just a design

All weather widgets have a dynamic color display.

The color changes according to the user’s individual settings, which allows you to assess the risks at a glance:

  • Safe values
  • Boundary conditions
  • Dangerous parameters for flight

Weather settings

To personalize the weather display, click the button in the upper right corner of the main screen. The “Settings” screen will open, which consists of two sections:

Limits of security

The “Security Limits” section allows you to set limit values, if exceeded, the color of widgets and flight status change.

The user can set acceptable limits for:

  • Wind
  • Gusts of wind
  • Visibility
  • Minimum temperature
  • Maximum temperature

In fact, these are individual weather limits under which the user’s UAV may or may not fly.

Based on this data, a flight status widget with a recommendation is formed.

Units of measurement

The “Units of Measurement” section allows you to adapt the display of data to the region or personal habits of the operator:

  • Temperature:
    • °C (degrees Celsius)
    • °F (Fahrenheit)
  • Wind speed:
    • M/s
    • Km/h
    • Miles/h
    • Knots
  • Pressure
  • Altitude:
    • Meters
    • Feet

Why is it important

“Weather” functionality in TacticMap:

  • Integrated directly into the work with the map
  • Adapts to a specific operator and type of UAV
  • Allows you to quickly assess risks without additional services
  • Helps to make decisions here and now

This is another step towards making TacticMap a full-fledged tactical tool, not just a map.
