How to work with overlays

This detailed guide will help you effectively create, edit, and delete overlays in the TacticMap app on your iPhone.

Overlays allow you to organize tactical information (such as enemy positions, minefields, or your own units) into logical groups for easier management and visualization.

Creating a new overlay

Creating a new overlay is the first step in organizing your tactical data.

  1. Open the TacticMap app on your iPhone.

  2. On the main screen, in the section titled “Overlays”, find and tap the “Create new overlay” button.

  3. A new screen will appear. In the “Overlay name” field, enter a clear and descriptive name that reflects the content of this overlay (e.g., “Enemy Positions”, “Minefields”, “Our Units”).

  4. (Optional) In the “Notes” field, you can add additional details or comments related to this layer (e.g., “Expected attack directions” or “Active minefields by sector”).

  5. After entering all the information, tap “Save”. The new layer will appear in your layer list.

Editing an overlay

Editing a overlay allows you to change its name or description if your plans or the situation change. There are two main ways to edit a overlay:

Method 1: Editing from the Overlay List (Quick Access)

  1. On the screen with the list of all your overlays, swipe left on the overlay you want to edit.

  2. Several buttons will appear, including an “Edit” button (pencil icon). Tap it.

  3. Make the necessary changes to the overlay name or description.

  4. Tap “Save” to apply the changes.

Method 2: Editing from the Overlay Detail View

  1. Tap the desired overlay in the list to open and view its contents.

  2. At the bottom of the overlay detail screen, find and tap “Edit”.

  3. Input fields will appear where you can change the name, description, or other available settings of the overlay.

  4. Once you’ve made the changes, tap “Done”.

Deleting a overlay

You may need to delete a overlay when the information is no longer relevant or if you want to clean up your list.

Method 1: Deleting from the overlay edit screen

  1. Tap on the overlay in the list to open it.

  2. Tap the “Edit” button to access overlay settings.

  3. On the edit screen, scroll down to find the “Delete overlay” button (usually highlighted in red as a warning).

  4. Tap “Delete overlay”.

  5. A confirmation prompt will appear. Read it carefully and tap “Delete” to permanently remove the overlay.

Method 2: Deleting from the Overlay List (Quick Access)

On the screen with the list of all your overlays, swipe left on the overlay you want to delete.

  1. A “Delete” button will appear. Tap it.

  2. A confirmation prompt will appear. Read it carefully and tap “Delete” to permanently remove the overlay.
